Sakarya Launches Construction of Sustainable Park

27 Nov 2025

Sakarya Metropolitan Mayor Yusuf Alemdar has officially announced the commencement of construction on a pioneering environmental project located in the Güneşler district of Adapazarı. Designated as the "Sustainable Park, this initiative represents a significant shift in urban planning, moving beyond traditional landscaping to create a high-tech, functional living space dedicated to sustainability.

A Strategic Vision for the Black Sea Region

The park is being developed as part of the broader "LAP BLACK" project, which aims to strengthen local response capacities regarding climate change specifically within the Black Sea Region. This facility serves as the physical realization of Sakarya’s "Local Adaptation Action Plan." By transforming a 5,000-square-meter area, the municipality aims to demonstrate its vision of a resilient, green, and socially conscious city. The project was designed by the Strategy Development Department and is currently being executed.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Infrastructure

What sets Sustainable Park apart from standard recreational areas is its focus on serving as a test bed for environmental technology. It is designed to be a "living lab" featuring infrastructure rarely seen in Türkiye. Key installations will include:

  • Carbon Footprint Kiosks: Interactive stations where visitors can measure and understand their carbon impact.
  • Smart Energy Solutions: Solar-powered benches and lighting systems to ensure energy autonomy.
  • Sustainable Infrastructure: The use of permeable concrete to manage rainwater runoff, alongside on-site compost machines and recycling stations to manage waste.
  • Environmental Monitoring: A dedicated system to monitor air quality and other environmental indicators in real-time.
  • Atmospheric Water Generators: Advanced devices capable of producing potable water from the air.

An Open-Air Classroom for the Community

Mayor Alemdar highlighted that this space is intended to be much more than a park; it is an education and awareness center. It serves as an experiential learning zone where thousands of students, teachers, NGOs, and small business owners (SMEs) can observe sustainable practices in action. The park will host applied environmental activities and events, bridging the gap between theoretical environmental objectives and practical, on-the-ground implementation.

Mayor Alemdar described the park as a concrete example of the municipality's corporate sustainability goals. He noted that this project is a model for the rest of Türkiye, proving that cities can create green, social spaces that are also resilient to the changing climate. He concluded by wishing the project to be beneficial for all residents of Sakarya, marking a new era where the city's environmental targets are actively brought to life in the public sphere.
