The Metropolitan Municipality is implementing the "Strengthening Local Climate Change Response Capacity in the Black Sea Region Project (LAP BLACK)" in collaboration with ITU, Kabuleti Municipality, Kavala Municipality, and the Ukrainian Association of Business Support Centers, within the scope of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin program.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts toward the "green city" goal with the slogan "Local Action, Global Impact."

Funded by the European Union’s Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program 2021-2027, the "Strengthening Local Climate Change Response Capacities in the Black Sea Region Project (LAP BLACK)" will be implemented with Istanbul Technical University as the lead partner, in collaboration with Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, Georgia’s Kobuleti Municipality, Greece’s Kavala Municipality, and the Ukrainian Association of Business Support Centers. The LAP BLACK project aims to enhance the capacity of local governments in the Black Sea Region to mitigate the effects of climate change. The overall goal of the project is to emphasize the importance of local intervention and cooperation while creating a sustainable and climate-resilient region. In this context, a Local Adaptation Team has been established to support the local adaptation plans to be carried out for Sakarya's Adapazarı district. The creation of Local Adaptation Teams will directly contribute to increasing the adaptation capacity of target groups and reducing their vulnerability to the effects of climate change.

Orientation Meeting Held The Local Action Plan (LAP) preparation team held the first orientation meeting at the Office Art Center. The meeting was attended by a wide range of participants, including representatives from academia, civil society organizations, citizens, the private sector, and public institutions. The gathering of stakeholders will foster collaboration in developing an effective local strategy to combat climate change.

Sustainable Park One of the key activities in the project is the "Sustainable Park" initiative. With this project, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality will build an innovative and climate-resilient green space. This park will serve as a living laboratory, where climate-resilient infrastructures, green spaces, and sustainable practices will be implemented and experienced.

The Metropolitan Municipality Will Play a Leading Role The LAP BLACK Project adopts a multi-stakeholder approach to reduce the effects of climate change in the Black Sea Region. By prioritizing the concepts of green cities and resilient cities, significant steps will be taken to develop strategies that will shape the future of the region.

In this process, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality aims to take the lead in climate change mitigation by forming a strong collaboration with project partners and providing lasting solutions to environmental problems in the region. These partnerships will enable the development of effective strategies at the local level and create a meaningful global impact.
